Electricity consumers are expected to experience intermittent power outages beginning today as the Transmission Company of Nigeria begins a 25-day maintenance exercise on the Omotosho to Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, the company said the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the National Independent System Operator have approved the critical infrastructure upgrade.

According to the statement issued Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, the upgrade involves the installation of an Optical Ground Wire fibre cable on the Omotosho to Ikeja West line and will run from July 28 to August 21 between 8am and 5pm daily.

TCN noted that power will be restored through the line at the end of each workday and all other circuits will remain operational to support a stable power supply to the Lagos area during the maintenance period.

The company said that upon completion, the upgrade will enable the full deployment of the supervisory control and data acquisition system, allowing for real-time monitoring and improved management of the national grid.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company, in a notice to its customers, confirmed the development and said, “Kindly be informed that there will be a planned outage our partner, Transmission Company of Nigeria, from Monday 28th July to Thursday 21st August 2025 between 08:00 and 15:00 hours daily. This is to enable work to be safely carried out on the Omotosho to Ikeja West 330kV power line.”

While apologising for the inconvenience, EKEDC said customers should expect intermittent power supply and load shedding during the period.
