Team Bus Of Nigerian Football Club Involved In Crash, Players Injured, Rushed To Hospital
The team bus of a Nigerian Football Club, Doma United based in Nasarawa State was involved in an accident on Monday morning along the Makurdi-Lafia Expressway in Benue.
It was gathered that the bus lost control and somersaulted several times along the expressway but no life was lost to the accident.
However, some of the players sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to a nearhospital, according to the club management.
The team lost 3-1 to Heartland FC at the Dan Anyiam stadium on Saturday during the NPFL24 matchday 35.
Doma United is not the first football club in Nigeria that had bad tales to tell while using highways in the country in the course of their trade.
For instance, In 2020, SaharaReporters also reported how Ifeanyi George, a player of another football club from the country, Enugu Rangers Football Club, was killed in a car accident.
The incident, which happened on Sunday morning four years ago, left two other players of the club critically injured.
The Enyimba Football Club of Aba, Abia State in December also offered its condolences to Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, Ondo State over the death of its Assistant Kit Manager, Taiwo Dosunmu, who died in Benin City, Edo State capital.
Dosunmu died from gunshot wounds he sustained from an attack armed robbers along the Benin/Ore Expressway on December 7, 2023.
The Enyimba FC also extended its condolences to the family of the late Sunshine Stars FC staff member, describing Dosunmu’s death as a great loss to the entire football community in Nigeria.
