FCT High Court sitting in Jabi has ordered that Maryam Sanda be remanded in Suleja prisons of Niger state after she pleaded not guilty to the two-count murder charge filed against her the Police.
The judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu before making the order said he does not like to be dragged into the drama acted in courts lawyers when Sanda’s lawyer urged the court to order that the accused be returned back to the custody of the police because she is a nursing mother.
“It is not proper to send the defendant back to the custody of the prosecution once arraignment has been done,” the judge said.
The judge adjourned the case to December 7 for commencement of trial.
Maryam’s lawyers also said a formal bail application would be brought before the court on that day after their oral application for bail was discountenanced the court.
Daily Trust reports that Maryam, daughter of a former Executive Director of Aso Savings, Hajiya Maimuna Aliyu Sanda, had allegedly fought with her late husband, Bilyamin Bello late Saturday evening after seeing correspondences between him and another woman on his phone.
She allegedly stabbed the deceased severally in the chest and thigh leading to his death.
Bello was a son of Alhaji Bello Halliru Muhammadu, a former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Minister of Defence.
