President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s D’Tigress for cementing their dominance in African women’s basketball after clinching their fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title
With a decisive 78-64 win over Mali in the final on Sunday, August 3, the Nigerian side became the first country on the continent to win the championship five times in a row.
In a celebratory post on his verified social media handles, President Tinubu hailed the team’s feat as a proud moment for the nation. He also lauded the players and technical crew for their “superb performance.”
Here is the congratulatory message below:
I salute the incredible discipline, focus, and team spirit of D’Tigress at this year’s AfroBasket tournament.
They have not only carried our flag high but earned global respect for Nigerian excellence, our players and team officials.
A special commendation to Coach Rena Wakama, our first female Head Coach, whose leadership and experience—both on the court and now from the bench—continue to inspire D’Tigress to new heights in this highly competitive sport.
The entire nation is behind you as you go for the 5th straight title. #MissionV
