EXPULSION OF PROFESSOR JERRY GANA FROM SDP
Thursday 21 February 2019, ABUJA – The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has approved the immediate expulsion of a former Presidential aspirant of the Party, Professor Jerry Gana for gross misconduct and anti-party activities.
The expulsion was contained in.a letter dated 12 February 2019 jointly signed the Acting National Chairman of the Party, Professor Tunde Adeniran and the National Secretary, Alhaji Shehu Gabam.
In a statement made available to journalists today in Abuja the SDP Director of Media and Publicity, Yemi Akinbode, said ” the NWC has reviewed the recent activities of Professor Gana in the party and is constrained to invoke Article 19.4 of the Party’s 2018 Constistution as amended to cause the expulsion of Professor Gana from the party.
In taking the decision to expel Gana, the NWC considered his behavior as constituting gross misconduct viz his failure to explore internal mechanisms to resolve perceived issues but resort to unnecessary and costly litigations, antiparty activities allying with the People’s Democratic Party against the decision of the party leading a pack of disgruntled and discredited elements to factionalize the party, disloyalty and utter disrespect to the party ideals and its leadership.
Gana’s expulsion is in line with the relevant provision of the party’s Constitution; and will be reviewed or ratified the National Executive Council in due course.
Akinbode further said’ “a window of Appeal Gana which should have happened within five days of the receipt of the letter Professor Gana has lapsed.
The right of appeal against this disciplinary decision in writing within five working days to Prof Tunde Adeniran OFR. Acting National Chairman, Social Democratic Party,
has lapsed, as Professor Gana failed to appeal his expulsion within the stipulated time.
