Sokoto police command arrest alleged ‘bandit financier’

Men of the Sokoto state police command have arrested an alleged bandit financiers, motorcycle thieves and recovered a stolen property.

The command in a statement released stated that in Tangaza Local Government Area, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit stormed Gidan-Madi after intelligence revealed a suspected funding channel for a notorious bandit gang. The operatives arrested Ruwa Ginyo, said to be the Fulani head of the community, along with two accomplices.

Police sources said the trio allegedly served as brokers who received rustled cattle, sold them in markets and forwarded the proceeds to armed groups.

Four rustled cows were recovered during the operation.

When interrogated, the suspects reportedly confessed as investigations continue.

In a separate operation, the Command’s Strike Force pursued a motorcycle theft syndicate into Talata Mafara in Zamfara State, where several suspects were arrested for alleged criminal conspiracy and handling of stolen property. Two suspected stolen motorcycles linked to an ongoing case were recovered

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, while confirming the arrests, praised the operatives, saying the dual operations ‘hit both the financiers of banditry and the logistics chains that keep criminal networks alive.”

“These successes show our resolve to operate within and beyond our borders to dismantle criminal structures,” he said

The Command urged residents, especially livestock and motorcycle dealers, to verify ownership documents and provide credible information to security agencies, assuring that all reports will be treated confidentially.
