News have it that about 7,000 artefacts taken from Benin Kingdom are expected to be repatriated byGermany to Nigeria not later than October, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disclosed.
According to the the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, he announced this at the inaugural Nigerian Cultural Show exhibiting the nation’s diverse cultural heritage, sites and traditional festivals at the Cultural Centre of Nigeria House in New York, United States of America. He further stated that there will be need for the building of ultramodern museum to accommodate this items and there will be need for the professional training of curators who will manage these artefacts.
Aduda said Nigeria as a country has gone far in discussing the matter with republic of Germany.
