Election of new executives of the Abaji students union turned violent when a free for all broke out between supporters of the two contestants.

Our reporter, who was at the venue to monitor the election at Adamu Shuaibu Memorial town hall, Abaji, observed that the students engaged each other in a brawl, disrupting the election.
A student, Mansur Yahaya, alleged that the outgoing executives had connived with electoral officials to rig the election in favour of their preferred contestant, Abdulkadir Taslim, against Aliyu Yahaya, who were both contesting for president of the union.
He alleged that some big shots in the area have interest in Taslim, which did not go down well with some of the students.
It was observed that a security man tried to calm down the aggrieved students but failed. He threw away the microphone and ordered his men to leave the venue.
Reacting, the outgoing president of Abaji students union, Comrade Haruna Musa Faruq, denied conniving with and supporting any of the two contestants vying for president of the union.
“In fact, it was one of the group’s supporters that even went and hired vigilante members and some thugs to disrupt the election, after the electoral committee had already invited soldiers, peace corps and police to ensure peaceful election,”  he said.
