A Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has ordered members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off their eight-months-old strike and return to the classrooms immediately.

The appellate court gave the order in a ruling on an application the striking lecturers, seeking permission to appeal against the order of the National Industrial Court which asked the striking lecturers to resume duty.

The 3-man panel led Justice Hamman Barka, stated that calling off the strike is the only condition that the union’s request to appeal the ruling of the National Industrial Court which ordered the union to call off its strike will be given effect.

The court asked ASUU to file its notice of appeal within 7 days and must show evidence that its members have resumed work immediately.
