The Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima, led some monarchs and top politicians in the state to the residence of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, last night to beg for the senate to lift the six months suspension placed on Seantor Ali Ndume this week.
The senate during its plenary on Wednesday, suspended Ali Ndume for calling for an investigation in an allegation made Sahara Reporters against senate President Bukola Saraki and Senator Dino Melaye. Sahara Reporters had accused Saraki of importing a Range Rover SUV into the country without paying the necessary customs duty while Dino was accused of forging his First degree certificate.
The senate’s committee on Ethics and Priviledges was mandated to carry out a public hearing. The investigation the committee showed the claims against Saraki and Dino were false. The senate afterwards suspended Ndume for moving a motion against two of his colleagues without carrying out proper investigation.
At the meeting with Saraki held in his Maitama, Abuja home yesterday night, Shettima appealled that the senate recalls Ndume and cancels the suspension. In his response, Saraki promised that he would look into the matter and come up with what would be favourable to them. Source: L.Ikeji
