The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has published the names of foreign embassies owing ground rent in Abuja.
According to the list, a total of $5.36m is being owed.
In a memo titled Final Notice on Payment of Outstanding Ground Rent in the FCT, gave those affected organisations just two weeks to pay up.
The list which has 43 embassies and high commissions in its “phase I – IV” was published across national dailies on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Some of the foreign countries with outstanding ground rent include Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Korea, Russia, France, Iraq, Italy, and Spain.
African countries on the list comprised Senegal, Cote D’Ivoire, Algeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zambia, and South Africa.
“All allottees, property owners, as well as beneficiaries of the sale of Federal Government Houses in the FCT who could not pay or settle their outstanding ground rents for the year 2023, are hereadvised in their interest to ensure payment within two weeks from the date of this publication, failure of which such titles shall be revoked,” the notice read.
“For ease of reference, the names of allottees and corresponding outstanding ground rents are listed below.”
