With tears the remains of former Commissioner of Education in Katsina State, Professor Halimatu Sadiya Idris who was killed along the Kaduna-Abuja road on Sunday armed men have been buried in Kaduna.
She was buried at 1.20pm according to Islamic rites at the Isa Kaita Muslim cemetery after a funeral prayer was conducted the Chief Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque, Sheikh Sulieman Adamu at the Islamic Learning Centre mosque, Kaduna.
Among the dignitaries present at the funeral were the deputy governor of Katsina state, the Special Assistant to Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Political Matters, Uba Sani, all commissioners and directors of the Katsina state civil service amongst others.
Hajiya Sadiya was among the victims of an attack over 10 armed gunmen along the Abuja-Kaduna express road which left many dead.
The attack, our correspondent gathered, occurred near Gidan Busa village, located between Jere and Kateri along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway.
An army officer and his daughter and a police officer who has been identified as Abubakar Muazu, 39, were also killed while many others were said to have been abducted.
An eyewitness who preferred anonymity said “There was an army officer travelling with his orderly and daughter. The orderly escaped with gunshot but they killed the army officer and his daughter on the spot. There was another person they killed after identifying that he was a policeman and several other passengers were killed, while many were abducted.”
Professor Halimatu Sadiya Idris was a professor of zoology and veterinary parasitology.
The police when contacted said they were going to issue a statement on the incident.
