The Niger State House of Assembly has dissolved the 25 local government councils in the state.
The assembly at the plenary yesterday said its decision was as a result of non-performance and misappropriation of funds.

It directed Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to put in place democratically elected councils within three months.
The Assembly took the decision while adopting the report of the House committee headed Abdulmalik Muhammad Kabir representing Paikoro that investigated the councils.
The council chairmen were directed to handover the affairs of the councils to their respective Director of Personnel Management (DPM).
The lawmakers accused the chairmen of “failure to discharge their duties and functions under the Niger state Law, 2001 in a manner conducive to the welfare and well- being of the people of their area of authorities.
They also indicted the legislative arm of the councils of failure to hold the number of sittings as required under Section 38; subsection (1) of Niger state local government Law, 2001.
